After a pastoral visit to a church member, she remarked, “Thank you pastor for your visit. Now I know, at least, that someone cares about me.” These simple words broke my heart to reconsider strengthening my social interaction with others.
There is so much warmth in human social network even though sometimes things can go wrong. To feel that someone cares about you, and that person wants to spend some time with you is so awesome. But do you know that God cares so much about us? We can learn this from the prayer of Jabez.
“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request” (1 Chronicles 4: 10).
Jabez asked five things from God, (1) God’s blessings, (2) extension of territory, (3) God’s leadership, (4) God’s protection, and finally, (5) relief from pain. Jabez’ story ends with these exciting commentary, “And God granted him what he requested”.
The story of Jabez explains how God cares about our whole existence, including the pains we go through. God is our greatest intimate friend of all time. He cares so much about us. Ellen White wrote:
“God’s heart of love is touched by our sorrows and even by our telling Him about them. We may take everything that troubles us to Him. Nothing is too great for Him to bear, for He holds up the worlds and rules the universe. Nothing that happens to us is too small for Him to notice. Nothing in our lives is too sinful for Him to know about. No problem is so great He cannot solve it. He shares our joys and our worries. He hears every sincere prayer and is always ready to answer. “He heals the broken-hearted and bandages their wounds.” Psalm 147:3. God knows His people perfectly, and He treats each one as though there were not another person for whom He gave His dear Son” (Steps to Jesus, p. 100).
Like Jabez, we shouldn’t feel shy to tell God the things of our lives. Ask God to bless your life and love ones. Ask Him to progress your work. Ask God to lead your life, including all the choices you have to make. Ask God to protect you from evil circumstances. Tell God about your broken hearts and the pains in your heart. Tell it to God everything! The apostle said, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5: 7).
God cares about everything of you.
